Basically, the Handball Clubs decided to associate in order to promote as much as possible the competitivity, and to spread this sport throughout Spanish society. In the long decade of existence of ASOBAL the enormous evolution that Handball has had in our country and, above all in relation to the great powers of the past, can be confirmed. The Spanish League has had some of the best world players -Vujovic, Stinga, Wenta, etc.-, whose important contributions have been ably adapted by our different teams. A large number of continental championships -24 until now, distributed in 6 Champions Cups (4 for FC Barcelona, 1 for Teka and 1 for Elgorriaga Bidasoa); 10 Cupwinners Cups (5 for FC Barcelona, 1 for Elgorriaga Bidasoa, 2 for Teka/Caja Cantabria, 1 for Calpisa de Alicante and 1 for BM. Granollers); 4 EHF-Cups (2 for BM. Granollers, 1 for Teka (when are IHF Cup) and 1 for Alzira); 3 European Supercup (FC Barcelona) and 1 Superglobe (Caja Cantabria)-, as well as the most recent success of the Spanish National Team during the year 96 -silver in the Spanish European Championship, bronze in the Atlanta Olympic Games and silver in the Italian European Championship at '98- confirm the thesis that ASOBAL has not only been a witness but also an important impulse towards the best Handball that at present can be seen world-wide. |
