The gerat abscenses of this Vuelta, normal in the last years, can be understood as significant, but not definitive to rest merits nor from the unbeatable organization of Unipublic nor to the own Olano. The Vuelta'98 has been the edition the public missed since time ago, the ones which create support.

Olano at the end has his great race, he achieved what every ciclist is obliged to have in his possess. The mediums used to make it, as much as they don't convince the supporters and always when they are inside of the stablished rules, are the less thing. "The yellow malliot has never been seen atacking", the champion of the hard Vuelta of Spain of 98 declares when he is asked about his non adhesion to the show side. Thank God this one has not missed this recently concluded edition, thanks overcoat, to all the mountain stages along the race, a fact which has ended helping the podium to be totally Spanish: Escartín and Jiménez, climbers in body and soul, second and third respectively were aside the champion in the final of Madrid. This fact comes to certify that if well the mountain, terrain in which Olano has improved much, is very important, in modern cycling, the individual time trials keep on being even more, the same as the tactical laboratory planing of the directors of the teams, which leaves nothing to be previewed. It is the Indurain style. Nevertheless, in any case it is a clone of Abraham Olano, as much as they want to sell him like that.
Nevertheless until someone proves the opposed, Olano is the best cyclist of the moment. Escartín, in his part, has already proved who he is, his limits and his sports zeniths. This is not the case of Jiménez, and leaving aside the polemic with the director, which really existed and exist, it will never be known what could had happened if his team had given him absolute liberty and if they hadn't censured or stoped his rebellious behaviour.
